Another Wicked Cool Triple Feature Courtesy Of Beyond Fest 2016!
That’s right folks, this epic festival put on another fun show of some great classic horror films for us… But before I discuss what happened at Beyond Fest this previous Saturday… I wanted to just do a brief recap of the previous weekends events!
Ok, so last weekend me and my friend, ‘Matt Dowling‘, who happens to be the CEO of AwesomeBMovies.com, and a great movie memorabilia shop by the name of, ‘Movie Poster Direct‘, ended up finding out about the epic Lucio Fulci (Zombi) double feature, featuring: The Beyond (1981) and, Gates Of Hell (1980)!
Now you might be wondering what made these movies so great… Well I mean Lucio Fulci made some rather awesome Italian horror films that has all of the elements that make up a great, ‘B’ Horror movies, that audiences around the world are still incredibly interested in! You know, great story line with cheesy dialogue, sort of mediocre… Yet great considering the small budget special effects… But some rather surprising talent… But the movies themselves weren’t’ the only thing to bring this night around… It was also the Q&A and concert that was being given by the two films composer, ‘Fabio Frizzi’ (Bridge To Hell)!
Now on to the next run…
Ok, so I am just gonna say it… The George A. Romero (A Night Of The Living Dead) triple bill that I watched that day was dare I say it… AWESOME! I mean I got to see the movie, Martin (1977) first, and then I got to watch the movie, The Crazies (1973)!
Now for those of you who have never heard of these movies. ‘Martin’, which stars, ‘John Amplas (Bloodeaters), tells the tale of how a young Vampire comes to live with his cousin… (Literal familial relation, as essentially the human side of the family still is required to take care of the Vampire side…)
Anyway, Martin is not like your standard issue Vampire… Sunlight doesn’t kill him, garlic doesn’t kill him, and he doesn’t have any fangs (don’t worry this movie is not where the inspiration for Twilight came from…) Anyway, despite all of that he is still immortal and still desperately needs blood… And gets in to all sorts of situations to get it… The only stipulation is that he doesn’t get it from the town that he is living in, otherwise his cousin will kill him!
And then the next movie, ‘The Crazies’ is more of an action packed tale… You see this movie tells the story of how after a biological weapon that is being transported ends up accidentally ending up contaminating the water supply… It will be up to the military to try and stop it… And a small band of friends to try and escape it!
At this point, I got a couple of hour break because the last movie didn’t start until 10pm… So I took off for a bit, and did the standard waiting in line thing… But when we finally did make it in to theater, unlike the first two movies, this movie was being presented in 3D, and was on the big screen! The last movie that we saw for the night, was the 3D cut of Romero’s classic, Dawn Of The Dead (1978)!
Now for those of you who don’t know this movie… This is actually the sequel to the classic, A Night Of The Living (1968), and tells the story of how after the invasion of the Zombie’s has begun… Civilization is headed toward collapse… Mankind is loosing the battle, and so a a small group, (A couple, a cop friend, and a man that the cop brings with him,) decide to take off and find some place to hide out in, till either the government managed to handle the problem, or they coul start their new lives!
As for that last night… Of course it had it’s problems… I mean these movie events rarely run exactly as advertised… But I can tell you the truth, I am glad that I went! There was some great movies played at this event, and some great guests… Including: Ken Foree (the black guy in the picture above,) as well as the producer of two out of three of the films, ‘Richard Rubinstein’ and so many more! And for more information these movies check out these trailers… And you will see the reasons why!
