Beetlejuice: Season 1 – Episode 1 (1989) – TV Episode Review

Ok, so when I was a kid there was a ton of cartoons that I really enjoyed… I mean the cartoons back then were pretty amazing! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, X-Men & even Bobby’s World… There was a ton of great cartoons to really enjoy.

One of my favorites from back then, that I didn’t think I would ever get to see again was the cartoon version of the classic horror/comedy movie, Beetlejuice (1988)!

And after not having seen this series since probably the early 1990s, I am going to say that it was just as fun watching it now, as it was back then… But we will get in to that in a minute.

Written by: Patsy Cameron (Duck Tales), Tedd Anasti (Free Willy) & Directed by: Robin Budd (Trucktown). Starring:  Stepehn Oumette (X-Men) & Alyson Court (Inspector Gadget).

This hilarious first episode brings us to about a year after the events of the first movie… The original inhabitants of the home have moved on… The Deetz family, including their weird daughter, ‘Lydia’ has not only acclimated to her new surroundings, but the ghost the former inhabitants hired to get rid of the Deetz family, ‘Beetlejuice’ has made fast friends with Lydia!

And since it has been exactly one year since they first met, Lydia wants to celebrate their one year anniversary by getting each other gifts!

Well of course ole Beetlejuice is to broke to be able to afford anything… But you see he gets an idea from Lydia that will cause mayhem and madness in the afterlife, the likes of which will take awhile to recover!

You see Lydia gets a job as a babysitter in her efforts to make some money for his gift… And Beetlejuice, having no clue what it actually means to babysit decides to try it out for himself…

When one strange baby after another strange baby comes to be watched by Beetlejuice… It will take Lydia to help him out of it… And get her that gift in the most wild and crazy and funny way imaginable!

Now the truth is, is this TV show is extremely dated… It was based on a movie that came out 30 years ago… So the chances are, if you are not a cartoon fan or you prefer the more modern fare… Then this show probably is not for you…

But if you remember this show, or you love the movie it is based on… Or maybe you are just a fan of older movies and TV series, then I highly recommend checking this one out, it is a ton of  fun!
