Friday The 13th #1 (2007) – Comic Book Review
Friday The 13th… Man that is a great movie right? I mean from the first movie when Jason’s mother is terrorizing the Camp to, Jason terrorizing student’s in space… It has been a mostly fun and entertaining story line!
Now I have been following this series for a lot of years now… As a matter of fact, I have been a fan of an awful lot of these slasher films from the 1980s… But there is one area that for me, I never really thought about getting in to, until recently, and that is the comics!
And well, I haven’t read much… I read a really fun crossover comic about a year ago that featured Ash, Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger, and well, other than the comic art being a little weird… I have to say that it was insanely awesome!
And you know what? Speaking of Friday The 13th… So far this first comic in Wildstorm’s 2007 series has some real promise!
Now this story tells a similar tale of what fate befalls all counselors who make their way to Crystal Lake… What I mean by that is this:
In 2007, Camp Crystal Lake is bought out by a billionaire who has decided to turn it in to a themed summer camp centered around the legacy of Camp Blood!
And like all great starts, you need a group of counselors to come by to clean it up right? But what these horny counselors haven’t realized is that the legend of Jason Voorhees and his crazy ass mama, really are more then just a ghost story at Camp Blood… And they will find out the truth about the Camp!
Now the truth is, is that this comic does kind of start off a little slow… What it seems to me to be, is that this comic is almost like the first part of it’s own Friday The 13th movie… And where as starting off slow in a horror movie is kind of cool, starting off slow in a comic book doesn’t always work… And it definitely did not in this comic!
Ultimately though, this comic shows some real promise, and I will be honest… I am looking forward to seeing what comes next!
