Justice League: The New Frontier Frontier (2008) – Movie Review
Ok, so this is an interesting one… So DC and it’s various heroes and villains have been around for a long time… Heroes such as, ‘Superman’ and, ‘Batman’, or villains like, ‘Lex Luthor’, ‘Captain Cold’, or even, ‘The Joker’, have been around in many forms and in many series for decades now… Most of us recognize them for their modern iterations… Including: Henry Cavill (The Tudors) as a darker man of steel, or Kevin Conroy (Face Of Fear) in his multitude of, ‘Batman’ rolls that he has played since the early 1990s!
But most of the more modern fans aren’t going to recognize the fact for example that Batman’s uniform wasn’t always black… Or that at one time or another, Superman’s, ‘S’ on his chest was not always what you would think it to be… But they are/were at one time or another and there was a movie that brought the DC superheroes they were in the past to the present with, Justice League: The New Frontier (2008)!
Written by: Darwyn Cooke (Batman Beyond), Stan Berkowitz (Avengers: Assemble) & Directed by: Dave Bullock (The Spectaculr Spider-Man). Starring: David Boreanaz (Buffy The Vampire Slayer), Miguel Ferrer (RoboCop), Neil Patrick Harris (Starship Troopers), Kyra Sedgwick (Phenomenon), Jeremy Sisto (Wrong Turn) & Corey Burton (Transformers: The Movie).
“That’s what the others said at first, remember? And now Batman’s a fugitive, the Justice Society’s retired, and Hourman’s dead. No matter how much good we do, deep down, people are always going to be scared of us. Isn’t that why you and I signed those loyalty oaths?” – Superman (A quote from: Justice League: The New Frontier (2008).)
This is the charcters and who they were at their greatest… You see this story tells of the fear and uncertainty that alot of people were living in back in the 1950s and 1960s… It showed that the world was still full of prejudice and fear back then, despite the fact that there were heroes around doing stuff to try and stop this!
And after the end of the Korean War… This is the story of how the Justice League was more or less basically formed from the post war ashes of the Justice Society!
You see, this story tells of the, ‘Center’ a group that seems to be controlling people from vast distances till they can come to Earth and begin their invasion… Now at this point, most of the known Superheroes, (Batman, Robin, Jon Jonze, Superman and even Wonder Woman,) are either on the run from the law, or are to disollusioned to remain in the country… Or are working for the, ‘Man’… But that all changes when the, ‘Center’ comes a calling!
And when they do, you will see the Justice League doing what they do best… Becoming a team! But becoming the team they were 60 or 70 years ago instead of the modern day!
This movie is fun… The story is surprisingly well written and scored… The actors are pretty amazing in the roles that have been chosen for them, and finally, and this what I liked best about the movie… That is that the animation showed us what a movie would be like with how the characters looked back then… For a history buff like myself… It was pretty amazing! If you haven’t seen it yet… Do so! It is fun!
