Before I begin, let me say that in the world of exploitation films (films that exploit a certain point, rather that be, ‘Blaxploitation’ (movies that exploit the fact that it’s cast is primarily black,) or, ‘Revengesploitation’ (movies that exploit and create some quite brutal revenge plots…
Now I have seen some of both of what is mentioned above, and I can honestly say that both are quite awesome! But the one that I have not seen is alot of, ‘Ozploitation’ films, (Films that have a predominantly Australian cast.)
I have seen a few of them… And the ones I have seen, those are insane good! Their casts maybe mostly unknown in the states, but they are amazing! Their special effects are off the chart good, and their scripts (for the movies I have seen) are pretty brilliant!
And all of this and so much more can be said about Occupation (2018)!
Written by: Luke Sparke (The 34th Batalion), Felix Williamson (The Great Gatsby) & Directed by: Luke Sparke. Starring: Dan Ewing (Chasing Comets), Temuera Morrison (Aquaman), Stephany Jacobsen (Battlestar Galactica: Razor), Rhiannon Fish (The 100), Zac Garred (All Saints), Izzy Stevens (Swipe Left), Charles Terrier (A Little Resistance), Charles Mesure (Boogeyman) & Felix Williamson.
“Create a diversion, rescue your friends, save the fucking planet.” – Major Davis (A quote by: Aaron Jeffrey (Underbelly) from the movie: Occupation (2018).)
Now this movie is absolutely amazing! The cast is great… It shows just how often Hollywood, and the industry can sort of forget some of their greatest! Because these actors are truly amazing!
The special effects are on par with any and every A-List Science Fiction film out there!
And the vision in putting this story together was nothing more than pure magic!
You see, this story goes that in a small town in the outback of Australia… The whole town is trying to stay afloat… And one of the ways they have decided to make it go right, is to get a charities soccer match to come in to play! y
And when the whole town happens to be at this sporting event… This is when the Aliens decide to invade this small little town…
In the ensuing melee, members of the one of the Soccer teams manages to make it out alive, as well as their girl friends, and about half of one man’s family… The rest of the city though is rounded up and hearded in to pens…
For what purpose? Who knows for certain, but when survivors start building up their weapons supplies… They will go, ‘Red Dawn’ to not only save their lives, or the lives of the towns folk that are now stuck in these pens, but to help maybe save the world from these Alien invaders!
Besides what I mentioned above… One of the things that I really liked that they did was they managed to humanize the Aliens a bit… And you really got to feel for them despite being a conquering army!
If you haven’t seen it yet, see it! It is great! Check it out, you might like it!
