Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (2011) – Movie Review
The Planet Of The Apes series… This movie franchise has been entertaining audiences all over the world for literally generations at this point! I mean the first movie, Planet Of The Apes (1966) came out when most of the modern generations grand parents were still teens!
With that said, there is something to say about this series that is pretty spectacular… I mean… It is kind of the ultimate dystopian post-apocalyptic movie… Something that posits the idea that mankind will be responsible for it’s own demise… But it won’t be a war of some sort that does it (like most post-apocalyptic movies generally tends to claim.) But more likely it is science and our own hubris which is what destroys mankind!
Fun story right? Well I mean this movie series has become so apart of the mainstream, that I suspect that most people have forgotten that it started out as a book decades ago… And when the new millennium hit, and people decided to try to remake it… They hit pay dirt with the movie: Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (2011)!
Written by: Rick Jaffa (Jurassic World), Amanda Silver (The Relic) & Directed by: Rupert Wyatt (Captive State). Starring: Andy Serkis (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), James Franco (Spider-Man), John Lithgow (Interstellar) & Frieda Pinto (Immortals)
“Caesar. I’m sorry. This my fault. This has to stop. This isn’t the way, you know what they’re capable of. Please come home. If you come home, I’ll protect you.” – Will Rodman (A quote by James Franco from the movie, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (2011).)
Now this is a fun little tale, you see in this movie, Will Rodman (Played by: James Franco) is a doctor at a pharmacueticals labratory… where he is desperately looking to cure alzheimers with a new miracle drug… What he ends up finding is something with extreme potential, but something more than what he expected!
You see the animal test subjects that Will uses, something is happening… And with one in specfic animal that begins to display intelligence that one would never expect!
But with this particular Ape, as his intelligence grows with the drug that he is being given… He is beginning to realize the damage that his human keepers are doing to him and his kind… And Caeser (Voiced by: Andy Serkis) is not tremendously fond of it… And is planning on doing something about it!
And what he plans looks like it might be the fall of the planet of the humans and the rise of the planet of the apes!
In the end… This was the second effort to remake the original, ‘Planet Of The Apes’ movie… Now I was one of the few people that thought the original remake was alright… Not great… But it worked! But this one was so well received that it has created it’s own series!
And I will be honest and say that where as the first remake was good, this remake was better… Because for me, it showed how the Apes started… Which the original series was sorely lacking… But it also showed it in a very brilliant fashion that really almost made you root for the downfall of your own species!
I mean in the end, if you have never seen this movie before, I highly recommend checking it out! It is very well worth it. I loved it, and you might as well!
