Godzilla: Planet Of The Monsters (2017) – Science Fiction Movie Review

He chased them off the planet… And now they are back!

So one type of movie that I do love to watch when I get the opportunity to, (Even though for some reason I really don’t seem to,) is anime!

Anime is freaking brilliant! Now this artform that comes from Japan that is truly a ton of fun is something in my opinion is that is well worth checking out!

I mean the stories are fun, the animation is truly spectacular… And frankly, where as most animation tends to cater more toward children, this tends to go more toward the adult… I mean there is blood, there is gut, and in some cases there is even sex!

And you know what… Godzilla: Planet Of The Monsters (2017) may have been the first one that I have seen in awhile, but it is pretty damn good!

Written by: Gen Urbobuchi (Psycho-Pass), Sadayuki Murai (Knights Of Sedonia), Yusuki Kozaki (Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo 3DS.), & Directed by: Hiroyuki Seshita (Ajin), Kôbun Shizuno (Elfen Leid). Starring: Mamoru Miyano (Death Note), Takahiro Sakaurai (Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children) & Kana Hanazawa (Phantasy Star Online 2: Episode Oracle).

“Because everyone believed in and supported me. I could be so daring and get this far. Even though we defeated it… What was it, really? How was it able to live for 20,000 years?“ – Haruro Sakaki (Played by: Mamoru Miyano from the movie: Godzilla: Planet Of The Monsters (2017).)

This movie… Which is the first in a series of anime movies that is setup like a movie/tv series tells of how after centuries of being dormant, a lot of the monsters of legend have come back to haunt the rest of humanity… Until finally Godzilla comes back to haunt the rest of the world!

Devastation from one of the many monsters plaguing mankind!

Now Godzilla is the ultimate monster… No matter what mankind throws at it, this monster just keeps coming and coming!

And when a disparate Alien race that lost their planet, is hoping to share the planet… With the exchange of course being that they get rid of Godzilla… But even the aliens with superior fire power still cannot destroy godzilla… Survivors of the human race and the Alien race decide to head off to find a new home and abandon the Earth!

Now 20 years later… When it is discovered that the planet they thought they were going to, turned out to be uninhabitable… They decide to head home…. And when they discover that even though their trip will not be to long, but that because of the Warp Speed, it is going to be about 1,000 years in to the future… People on board the generational ship start getting excited!

And so the desperate crew of the ship take off for Earth and overshoot their mark by about 19,000 years… And guess what? They still aren’t Godzilla free!

Godzilla is bigger and badder then ever!

This is the last efforts of the last of the human race to stop Godzilla… And if they can do so, and protect their new colony on old Earth… Maybe the human race can start fresh!

Now every thing I said about anime definitely applies to this movie series as well… The only problem is that… As good as this movie was… It felt a little formulaic in some aspects (despite taking a different concept for the overall story!)

Regardless… It is a fun movie, and if you like these types of movies, then they are really well watching!
