Hot Tub Time Machine (2010) – Sci-Fi Movie Review

These 4 guys are in for the time of their lives when they decide to get in to the hot tub, get piss drunk, and wind up in 1986!

Ok, so I am going to be honest and say… What the fuck was up with the bad decisions with movies in the first decade of the new millennium? I mean don’t get me wrong, there were a ton of fun films… But you had to get through some very strange… Pointless and unneccary grossness to get there!

People taking dumps and showing them in rediculous detail… Weird shit coming out of weird people… And sometimes quite literally!

And it was particularly bad with horror and comedy for some reason! Horror… Like I mentioned before… It is like horror movie directors thought it would be good to film the entire movie in a swimming pool, so that the villain can prick his or her victim with a bobby pin as an excuse to fill up the pool with fake blood!

An example of the sometimes over the top nature of horror and comedy movies!

Then there is comedy… And I am just going to be honest… What the fuck! It is like where as horror movie filmmakers were trying to find excuses to fill up swimming pools full of fake blood… Comedy filmmakers were trying to find the most idiotic reasons to have their actors spraying all kinds of non-sense all over the place!

I guess what I am trying to say, is that doing stupid crap like that really destracts from the overall awesomeness of the movie… And I hate to say it… But Hot Tub Time Machine (2010) really is no different!

Written by: Josh Heald (Cobra Kai), Sean Anders (Daddy’s Home), John Morris (Dumb And Dumber To) & Directed by: Steve Pink (Gross Pointe Blank). Starring: John Cusack (1408), Clark Duke (The Croods), Craig Robinson (This Is The End) & Rob Corddry (Warm Bodies).

“Here’s a question. Was it morally wrong for me to exploit my knowledge of the future for personal financial gain? Perhaps. Here’s another question. Do I give a fuck?” – Lou (A quote by Rob Corddry from the movie, Hot Tub Time Machine (2010).)

Ok if you forget the occaisonal absolute disgustingness that this movie and movies like this promote… This movie is actually the pretty hilarious tale of 3 friends from highschool and the looser nephew that had the adventure of a life time!

These guys are in for the ride of their lives when they realize that they actually did go back to the 80s!

This movie tells the story of how after Lou (Played by: Rob Corddry) tries to kill himself, his friends, ‘Adam’ (Played by: John Cusack) and Nick (Played by: Craig Robinson)… Along with Adam’s nephew, Jacob (Played by: Clark Duke), decide to take Lou back to the place where they all were at the top of their game!

You see… Back in 1986, Lou, Adam and Nick… When they were in High School made their way up to a ski lodge for the weekend, and had a weekend filled with booze, drugs and women, the likes of which they still had not forgotten even when they were adults!

When they get their though, the town and the lodge they were staying at back in 86 and in the present became garbage…

Crispin Glover as, ‘The Bellhop’… In 2010 is a depressed, angry and miserable one armed man… And is still working at the Hotel despite it’s slow decent in to hell!

And so instead of letting the situation get the better of them… They decide to set in a hot tub that was just outside of their room and get piss drunk!

What they don’t know, is when they accidentally spill an illegal Russian energy drink all over the Hot Tub’s control panel… They all 4 of them get sent back to the 1986, and the adventure of a life time as most of them get to re-live their youths in an effort to find their way home!

Now for this movie there is definitely some periods of extreme, ‘what the fuck’! disgustingness… But the casting is great, the comedy is their and all of it put together is humorous!

If you get a chance… Check it out, it is funny… Just be prepared to be grossed out as well!
