Back in the early part of the new millennium I think alot of the industry was trying to find new footing that would attract the audiences of the next generation…
Alot of the old guard was starting to get old and retire… And alot of the old A-List celebrities were starting to loose their celebrity power… And so with the next generation coming in, and trying to make slicker and sexier movies, (of any variety)… The industry was making a bunch of false starts… The start of remaking absolutely everything was a great mistake… But is an example of what I am talking about.
Then James Wan (The Conjuring) and Leigh Whannell (Insidious) came up with the brilliance that is, Saw (2004)!
Written by: Leigh Whannell, James Wan & Directed by: James Wan. Starring: Tobin Bell (Manson Family Vacation), Leigh Whannell, Cary Elwes (Kiss The Girls), Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon), Ken Leung (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Dina Meyer (Starship Troopers), Shawnee Smith (The Blob) & Monica Potter (The Last House On The Left).
“Most people are so ungrateful to be alive, but not you, not any more…” – Jigsaw (A quote by Tobin Bell from the movie: Saw (2004).)
This is the ultra suspenseful scary tale of how two men, Adam Faulkner-Stanheight (Played by: Leigh Whannell) and Doctor Lawrence Gordon (Played by: Leigh Whannell) get caught in the game that Jigsaw plays.
You see, both of them wake up in an abandoned bathroom that looks like it had been abandoned for years… And between them is a guy who appears to be dead…
Now to get started both of them have tape recorders that explains the game… And if they wish to survive the game, they are going to have to survive in real life… in a way that niether one of them thought they would ever have to do!
Now this movie, which was one of the highest grossing horror movies of it’s time, was pretty amazing!
I mean they managed to film all of the bathroom scenes in sequence to help the actors feel what it would have been like to be really handcuffed in the bathroom!
Another thing of interest is the fact that the Director (James Wan) had really not intended this movie to be like, ‘Torture Porn’… It really started becoming this way during the sequels!
In the end though this movie really is great! You got a ton of A-list talent, and great special effects for a movie that could have easily ended up in B Movie obscurity!
Check it out… If you are a horror freak, like I suspect you might be… Check this one out, I think that you will be glad you did!
