Scream (1996) – Horror Movie Review

This helped berth a new horror superstar in to the world!

So Wes Craven (A Nightmare On Elm Street)… Am I right? For his entire career as a horror movie director, Wes Craven has managed to scare and entertain men and boys all over the world… And sometimes literally scare women and girls in to the arms of their boyfriends or husbands!

Besides his probably most signature masterpiece in horror that he has done, I think we can all agree that what Wes Craven did in the 80s, he brought that magic to the 90s with the movie, Scream (1996)!

Written by: Kevin Williamson (The Vampire Diaries) & Directed by: Wes Craven. Starring: Neve Campbell (Skyscraper), Skeet Ulrich (Jeremiah), Matthew Lillard (Scooby-Doo), David Arquette (Eight Legged Freaks), Joseph Whipp (Deadly Games), Rose McGowan (Grindhouse), Courtney Cox (3,000 Miles To Graceland), Lawrence Hecht (Search For Fortune), Liev Schreiber (The Manchurian Candidate), Jamie Kennedy (Tremors 5: Bloodlines) & Drew Barrymore (Firestarter).

“Now Sid, don’t you blame the movies. Movies don’t create psychos. Movies make psychos more creative!” – Billy Loomis (A quote from Skeet Ulrich, from the movie, Scream (1996).)

After an anonymous killer guts two high school lovers, a mysterious rise in fear and rumors rise in a peaceful Californian town.

She may not be in the sequel… But she this character will play a prominent role through out the first couple of movies!

A killer starts killing high school teenagers, with a young teenage girl, an eccentric and dramatic cop, and a selfish and ambitious reporter trying to investigate the murders.

A strange number of events starts to happen around Woodsboro and the people of the small town, including a group of high school friends, an accused killer, a suspicious boyfriend and, of course, the mysterious killer with a ghost face mask. Suspenseful, clever, and a little gory.

Ok this movie is pretty iconic of 90s horror! I mean it has some truly A level 90s talent, including: Neve Campbell (of Party Of Five fame) playing: ‘Sydney Prescott’ in this movie, David Arquette (of Buffy The Vampire Slayer fame) playing, ‘Deputy Dewey’, Courtney Cox (of Friends fame) as, ‘Gail Weathers’ all in this movie!

Just a few of the major 90s superstars in this movie!

Kevin Williamson who would go on to be one of my favorite screen writers when he started writing for, ‘Dawson’s Creek’ did an amazing and impressive job in this film.

And Wes Craven… Well the man is a legend in the horror genre! And since his passing, his movies have become all that more memorable!

In truth the only thing that I could find fault with in this movie is the fact that this movie was supposed to be a spoof but was so serious and so good… I don’t think anyone really noticed!

Anyway, check this movie out! It is truly an amazing fun time!
