Alright, so I know that Liev Schreiber (Scream 2) seems to have mostly relegated himself to doing shows like, ‘Ray Donovan’… Which that’s cool, I mean lets be honest… We play to our strengths, and if I am being fair… From what I have seen of the series… It is a pretty good show!
But before he started spending a larger portion of his time on TV, he was and still is a pretty awesome horror movie star… For my money, some of his greatest work was done both in the, ‘X-Men’ series as well as the, ‘Scream’ series!
With that in mind though… He hasn’t really come on my radar for new movies or TV appearances, so I haven’t seen much of anything that he has been in, in recent time… That was until, The Last Days on Mars (2013)!
Written by: Clive Dawson (The Bunker) & Directed by: Ruairi Robinson (BlinkyTM). Starring: Liev Schreiber, Elias Koteas (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Romola Garai (Atonement), Olivia Williams (Rushmore), Johnny Harris (Jawbone), Goran Kostic (Taken), Tom Cullen (Black Mirror) & Yusra Warsama (The Order Of Things).
“There’s a pretty good chance I’m infected too. If that’s the case, I’ve got just enough fuel left to drop out of orbit and burn up in the atmosphere. At least it’ll be quick. You should get this in about 15 minutes, so, uh, I guess I’ll be waiting. Five eleven Zulu, Aurora lander out.” – Vincent Campbell (a quote by: Liev Schrieber, from the movie: The Last Days On Mars (2013).)
Ok, so this is the tale of one of the first permanent outposts on another planet… And the crew of that far flung research station being rotated out… When something happened…
You see, in the last few days before they are supposed to leave some of the crew is ecstastic to be going home, and some of the staff are annoyed that they have to leave at all!
That will all change when one of the research scientists discovers that there is actually life on Mars… They find a bacteria that is growing on the walls of one of the holes that they dug!
Now there is something unique about the bacteria… It tends to infect the crew of humans that is on the planet! And in the last few days before they are supposed to leave, it will be up to the crew of this outpost to figure out how to stop this deadly bacteria, before the transfer ship arrives and potentially infects everyone on Earth when they get home!
Now this movie is fun, but in truth… What honestly makes this movie great is the character that Liev Schrieber plays (Vincent Campbell, the sort of wise cracking holds the crew together after the Skipper goes technician)… Don’t get me wrong, the special effects are great and the story is great, but when it comes right down to it… In the modern Sci-Fi/Horror movies… They are pretty common!
Hell… I would say most of it is pretty generic… But Liev Schrieber brought an extra added elment of realism that really brought this movie together!
In the end, if you haven’t seen it, then I would say, ‘check it out’… Don’t expect this movie to be the greatest ever of it’s kind… But it is worth a watch… For sure!
